"24 seconds" episode 2

"Comic Genius"

date: March 19, 2006

I rated the first one a 4/5 but this is brilliant. Brillianter than the first one at least; this is a 5/5. The pause after the question and subsequent cut to credits almost made me laugh out loud. Keep 'em coming.

Shortest Spidey flash evr

"Excellence per Minute: High"

date: March 18, 2006

This was short, which is a slight detraction, but I really like the concept: Spider-Man seen not from his perspective, but from that of an ordinary, non-Peter Parker citizen. It drags on a little too much at the end. Of course, I would've had the music fade in and out as Spidey came and went, complete with Doppler effect... but that's just me. Very good movie.

Author's Response:

Yes your idea is not bad, but the way M_fat imagined this is perfect this is EXACTLY how we saw it in our minds, sorry :P

Yeah the non Parkerish point of view is interesting ^^

Well thanks for the 9!

Mario Wars

"Quality Movie"

submission: Mario Wars
date: March 18, 2006

I have to say that some of the sprites are extremely ugly and painful due to their ultra-zoomedness. Classic games had cool graphics (those of us old enough will understand) but zooming in on them that much just butchers them. On the bright side, that's my only major complaint against the movie. It has a cool style and the battle scenes are surprisingly well done. I didn't quite understand why the flagpole disappeared. It seemed intentional, because a sound effect played at the same time as the disappearance. Anyway, the sound is pretty good but not quite great. Even though it was a war movie, I found it funny, as any decent movie with old school sprites has to be funny (again, those of us old enough...). It seemed a bit slow in some parts such as certain conversations, but it doesn't detract from the overall experience. I had to give it a 1 for interactivity because there was a play button after the NG loader play button. That's twice the interactivity, for those who are mathmatically challenged.

I scream for Icescream

"A Visual Punch to the Face (And Not in a Good Way)"

date: March 18, 2006

The song has a good sound but is your typical, generic emo failed love reminiscence. To be honest, the artwork is pretty shoddy but there were some cool visual effects. One that comes to mind is when one of the characters (it seems like there's more than one, as they have different hair) turns into blurry, manic shadow copies of himself. Or something like that... If I had to nitpick, I would ask why the falling guy (another generic emo theme) has a motion blur in slow-mo whereas he does not at full speed. It seems counterintuitive. And also, some of the building lights stay on all the time and it kinda takes away from the whole falling effect. This movie obviously took some effort and wasn't terrible, but I've seen many better movies.

The Epic: Adam

"Very Well Done"

submission: The Epic: Adam

This movie is obviously high-quality stuff. Extremely good-looking art and animation combine with a wicked anime style to make this movie enticing eye candy. Plus, I have to give the author credit for choosing the name, Adam. I'm just waiting for the next installment.

Unreal Flash

"Decent Game, Nothing Special"

submission: Unreal Flash
date: March 17, 2006

I'm not really sure why other people like this game so much. The game starts off great and the presentation is pretty well done, but there are several major issues that I think need to be fixed. The first problem is that the game feels sluggish during 2v2's and especially 3v3's. The jumping is awkward and slow and the AI isn't brighter than your average nail, although they can somehow shoot with near perfect accuracy over long range and will shoot right upon spawning. Lack of spawn protection is a little annoying. I really don't feel like this makes a great effort to connect with Unreal, but I've only played the original UT. The game has strong points, though. The music is very fitting and sounds great. The weapons are equally awesome, especially the double wielding. I understand that there may be some limitations that come with using flash, but if I had a choice (which I do...) I would much rather play Soldat: the bugs are just too annoying. Overall, not bad, but not great.
